The prestigious Polartec APEX Awards are presented annually to the designers and companies that make the most outstanding Polartec-based products. A panel of judges selected this year’s winners based on the style, function and fit of the garments as well as the most innovative and appropriate uses of Polartec fabrics in the designs.
We received more product submissions this year than ever before in the history of the APEX Awards, making the decision process harder than ever. The judges selected 12 European and 12 North American winners ranging from haute couture fashion, to flame-resistant firefighter turnout gear, to innovative and high-tech softshell jackets. All of the winning pieces will be available to consumers in Fall 2010.
In addition to the highly coveted Tiffany crystal award itself (and bragging rights of course), manufacturers can participate in a custom hangtag program promoting the winning garments at the consumer level. Polartec also provides additional marketing support through product placement with media and events.
This year’s winners include the Under Armour 2010 US Olympic Freestyle Team Audio Hoody, constructed with Polartec Wind Pro® fabric for breathable comfort with four times more wind protection than traditional fleece, and featuring sonic welded/taped seams, an exterior iPod touchpad controller. Unfortunately this winner is available exclusively to U.S. Olympic skiers.
Mattress master, Sealy, also took home an APEX this year for their use of Body Climate® by Polartec fabric, developed to work with the body’s natural ability to regulate temperature and thus provide a deeper, more restful sleep. The luxurious fabric enhances air circulation for year round comfort while integrated, permanent anti-microbial properties guard against degradation from microorganisms.
Finally, Polartec is proud to award a 2010 APEX to the U.S. Army for its Tactical/Peckham Vocational Flame Resistant Environmental Ensemble. This midweight shirt and drawers set provides permanent flame resistance and quick drying breathability with warm, yet lightweight high loft Polartec Thermal FR® fabric.
